My first week as a Dell Employee

So, this is my first week as the On-Site Engineer. Full glamorous name, but what does it mean? I am a technician that has clout. I like that. This was also the first time I ever written a report that people took seriously.

Beyond that, I have to make up this week with Jen. I had a few days that I was in a bad mood when I got home. After I get payed, I think I will take her out for a small celebration. I am starting to get where I want to be. With this job, I plan on saving a few dollars and use that as a down payment to an education. I have decided that as a strong knowledge of money matters are in my head, I would like to sharpen it with a bit of accounting knowledge. Yep, I plan on going back to school for accounting. This is now made firm. I just want to find a good accounting school in the area. From the looks of it, UNI might have a good path to that. We shall see.

I also need to make this week up to the girls. I will need to make some plans. Maybe we can go to the heated pool this weekend. Of course, we would need to make sure we are dry before going out to the car since its been getting FRIDGID outside.

Now for some Tech stuff: (heheh)
I have been really looking at some upgrades to my computer. I can’t deal with the fact that it will be pricey… I think the biggest issue is, do I want to go ATI or Nvidia for my video. Some of the marketing problems that I would say that NVidia has is kind of making me want to go ATI… but the latest reviews show that NVidia is back on track of making decent quality cards.

I want High end, but not at the cost of a Segway in my system. At the understanding of video cards, about 1/2 of the computer’s price should be to that. So, if I am going to upgrade my system, it will be quite a costly machine.

Multiple meetings

I did not anticipate there would be so many meetings today. I know there was one set for 10 am. There were 7 today. Yea… 7. now it is after 5 and I am hungry. I already left the parking garage and forgot to get a receipt… Thats bad… oh well. I will remember tomorrow.

Can’t wait to get home and be greeted by Jen. I really do miss her today.

Deeper understandings

There is something that Jen brought up. She makes very valid points.

This website is not suppose to be a blog of just tech. It is suppose to be me and my life. That will be corrected from here on.

First things first. Let me talk about this week since it was a very major week for me.

I don’t know if anyone really knows much of my family life, but, last week here, Kayla, the eldest of my step children, became 10 years old. This is a big deal for her because now she is a Tween. For her birthday, we went to Chuck E’ Cheese. Because it was her birthday, they gave her some tokens. I know she had a lot of fun because she played lots of skee ball and Mario Kart. I played Deal or No Deal…. Yea, let’s get tickets, baby!!!!

I would also say the real big thing was, I took the week off. I retired from my position at Starken so I can become refreshed when my new job starts. It was a really well deserved week off.

Then, Saturday came around. The girl’s father took them to see their grandfather. This let Jen and me to have a whole day to ourselves. We enjoyed our time. We went out to do some grocery shopping, and some much needed rest for both of us.

Today, in contrast, was not as much an easy day. But, to make the best of it, we looked at some cars because I will need something that will not strand me on the side of the road for the next 8 months, which include some of the nastiest weather in the region.

Jen and I agreed on two models for me to test drive tomorrow. A 2000 Intrepid and a 1998 Stratus ES. I will also go across the street and test drive a PT Cruiser. I am intrigued by the choices I have. To help pay on the cost of one of these cars, we are going to see how much the trade in value of our Olds.

Also, we figured a remedy for the kids messing up the couches. And, the girls love it. We got them their own chairs. A Bean bag for Kayla, and a Princesses Moon chair for Gracie.

All in all, even though it was a tiring day, it was generally good.

Missed the Blizzcon, oh friggin well.

I took a vacation this week. Well, let me clear that up, I left work for a week before starting my new position. I really needed some time off. Testing, errands, all the other fun stuff. I am just now getting ready to rest for the start of my new job. I know I will be enjoying this one far more since there will be more work.

Jen was just watching me typing to a friend… I wonder if she is feeling some form of jealousy… but will not say anything about it. I might need to have a short talk with her.

Just occured to me....

I am looking over my shoulder and saw how this page looks like in Internet Explorer 7. Heh, it’s not rendering as intended on the header portion.

My only suggestions to get proper rendering is to use either Firefox 3 or get the Internet Explorer 8 beta. I don’t know what MS did in 8, but it fixed the rendering problem. I will not mung up my website to support incompatible browsers like IE7. It renders right on FF, Opera, and IE8, so I know it is not my site that is the problem.

Sorry ol’ IE7 users.

Another weekend

Is it me, or is it just the days go on slower and slower, but when the day is over, you wonder where the hell the day went?

I have those a lot more often than I care for. I would like to have something to show for the long day. I want to look back and say, “Well, the day didn’t go fast, but at least I don’t have to worry where it went to. At least I have a timeline to show for so later in life, I won’t won’t complain that my life went too fast.”

The only thing I can recall for the day is the little bit of cleaning, helping fold the laundry, and going to the pool. Well, at least I didn’t do nothing. There is some value to the day.

And, I got to spend some time with Jen. You know what, the day was not wasted at all. I have to look more into the fact that I am with Jen, and she fills my day. That’s it. I now get it.

Update on move

It didn’t work. My host has certain rules on clear url settings. If I am to do that, I would need to see what I can do on replacing my server. I am still trying to get my home server running the way I want it to.
BTW, which is something I plan on getting done as my host requires me to log into their forums every two weeks.

Playing Spore, got creature

So, lately I have been playing Spore. I believe this is one of the most fun games as of the last few years. You take a cell, and you grow it by either being a carnivore or herbivore, or if you evolve it, omnivore. After you evolve enough, you grow legs (or don’t) and go on land. From there, you are a nestling that goes around the land making friends, or food of your enemies. After you have befriended/ate enough of the other creatures on the land, you evolve into a tribal stage. Here, you gain the knowledge of weapons, music, and fishing. You can make friends with other villages by playing music, and if you try to make friends with tribes that are slightly not happy with you, you would have to give a gift of food. Or, you can do what I did and assimilate their technology by making their tribes extinct. After a while of doing this, you evolve to the civilization stage. From here, you acquire resources, like spice, which you use to gain money. Again, you have enemies or friends. This time, it is your race, but different factions. Either wage war with a fellow territory or go give them a gift of money. (I wage war, I am an evil race. What can I say, I am only human) That’s really as far as I have gotten, but I was watching a friend and he created a space ship and started colonizing. He was “Friendly” so he was doing trades and all. From there, he started putting together the galaxy. He has hit the omnipotent stage, and it’s really fun. I am going to get on the way there, by attrition. Xenophobia never felt more cuddly.

Here is Theep, my creation, in all his phases.

Moved site a folder over

I moved it down to the main site folder… The /textpattern/ was just part of testing the site. Only issue I have is… possible… EEP… breakage. Will need to test after posting this. If it did break, then I will have to see what I can do as a redirector.

Holy Amero!

OK, not normally what I do here, but sometimes, my politico-financial standings in beliefs and such get in my way, so here we go.

I was just joking in the Analog Hole Gaming chatroom today. We were talking about the bailouts and the pending financial crash we are going to go through. Yes, we are going to go through another great depression. It is a cyclical financial evolution that this country goes through. It really was ignited by the DOTCOM fiasco.

We got to the point where other countries are buying out our debt. Here is the chat convo.

(10:04:57 AM) christyn: and these banks and institutions took on a LOT of potential debt
(10:05:07 AM) christyn: a lot of risky loans and investments
(10:05:37 AM) christyn: and because of the net to debt ratio change, they didn’t even have to keep the amount of cash or cash equivalents in “the safe”
(10:05:51 AM) christyn: so as THEIR bad debts come up. they’ve got nothing to pay with
(10:05:57 AM) christyn: which is why the governement now needs to step in
(10:06:07 AM) christyn: because OTHER COUNTRIES own a large portion of US based debt
(10:06:29 AM) PalladiumStar: Which is VERY BAD
(10:07:17 AM) PalladiumStar: OOO! OOO! Can I suggest the name of our new money? (since we are going the same way as Mexico with their money) I suggest Nueve Dollar!
(10:08:26 AM) christyn: already taken care of for you, bb
(10:08:27 AM) christyn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_currency_union
(10:08:42 AM) christyn: the word you’re looking for is “amero”
(10:08:43 AM) PalladiumStar: Oh crap….
(10:08:46 AM) Annai: i’m not keeping up with this well, but isn’t some of the debt crisis because some of these banks were required to take on loans (because of fair lending practices) that they otherwise might not have?
(10:08:55 AM) christyn: no
(10:08:55 AM) PalladiumStar: And I was just joking….

So, as you can see, there is already a proposed NAFTA/SPP monetary system in the books. /shakehead

Wikipedia on the Amero (I can truly say, this is worrisome as this can happen now our markets are going down…)
